Day 2 First full cycling day

It poured all last night, but was easing off by 7.30 when you'd have found me outside making coffee. I was wearing merino long johns and T shirt, a long sleeved merino top, a thin fleece, a warm fleece and full waterproofs. It was very cold and very windy. We didn't come to Spain for this weather!!  The good news was that the wind was now in the north which helped our southerly progress down the coast on the beautiful bike path past the Greek and Roman ruins of Empurias.

Girona

We headed inland towards Girona on pretty back roads with views to the snow-clad Pyrenees  to the north, wild poppies by the roadside and swallows darting around us.

Girona was crowded, it was the flower festival.

We soon moved on and looked for the Via Verde which leads to Anglès. We thought that we'd have 20km of easy cycling on this, but it proved to be the toughest part of the day. Try cycling 20km uphill on wet sand and you'll understand what I mean.
After Anglès we took to the road again and wound uphill into a lovely remote valley.
We put the tent up in a quiet mountain campsite at Osor not quite in time to shelter from an enormous thunderstorm!

Empurias to Osor 75kms, 600m ascent.
