Our approach to El Escorial from the viewpoint of Felipe 2 was magnificent if arduous.
We arrived in the town and found that at 5pm there was free entry for EU citizens, so we waited so as to be able to take advantage of this soon-to-disappear offer. This made us rather late heading off towards the campsite which was a mere seven downhill kilometres away. Unfortunately we found this en route. Not easy to get a heavily laden touring bike along that!
