Day 37 Peñafiel to Castillejo de Robledo

The campsite at Peñafiel was indeed very nice, set among pine trees and grassy. We enjoyed chatting to a French couple who had been cycling around Spain for a month longer than us and who were now heading back home.

It is relatively flat in this area, so we were soon in Aranda de Duero some 48km further on. There is another campsite here, but we wanted to get further today and after a snack of padron peppers and patatas bravas in the pleasant square we pressed on.

The villages in this area seem more affluent than in much of rural Spain, presumably because of the Ribera del Duero appellation. There were vines everywhere.

Many villages had the word fuente in their name and there were lots of drinking fountains where local people were filling bottles. We did too!

Pretty, quiet roads led to our final destination of Castillejo de Robledo.

As its name implies it also has a castle. We can see it from our room in the lovely Casa Rural we are staying in!

Peñafiel to Castillejo de Robledo - 75km, 250m ascent.
