Day 38 Castillejo de Robledo to Berlanga de Duero

We really enjoyed Castillejo de Robledo and last night ate one of the best veggie meals we've had in Spain before walking back to our Casa Rural.
In the rural areas the concept of vegetarianism isn't really understood and we struggle with our limited Spanish to avoid tuna on salads and jamon in almost everything. The first option is always to offer a tortilla. I'm not very keen on eggs, but I have eaten more in these last five weeks than I have in the last five years!

This morning we ate the best breakfast we've had too! It was quite an improvement on the normal hostal breakfast of one cup of coffee with one slice of toast and jam. It certainly fortified us for the rather stiff 9% hill out of the village.

It was hot today. We've been too cold for much of the trip and now the temperatures are soaring. This afternoon was the first time we've really felt uncomfortable with the heat.
However we made good progress on the quiet and very scenic roads. There were extensive views everywhere, but little shade.

We crossed the Duero into San Esteban de Gormaz- the usual castle evident above the town.

Empty roads led to a steepish climb.

We had nice views back over the orchards and vinyards we'd just left.

Accommodation is getting quite scarce in this area, so we stopped after 65km in the pretty town of Berlanga de Duero rather than continue in the heat for another 35km to the next hostal.

Castillejo de Robledo to Berlanga de Duero - 65km, 300m ascent.
